Track & Field Secures 4 Titles at Division II State Championship in Columbus
The Central Catholic girls’ and boys’ track & field teams participated in the Division II State Championship over the weekend at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium on the campus of The Ohio State University.
Senior Nyla King won 3 state titles and junior Victor Singleton, Jr. secured 1 state crown at the 117th-annual Boys’ and 50th-annual Girls’ Ohio High School Athletic Association Track & Field State Championship.
Overall, the girls’ squad finished 4th with 30 points, while the boys’ team placed tied for 21st with 10 points. A total of 8 CCHS student-athletes qualified for the 2-day meet.
On the girls’ side, King won a state championship in the 100-meter dash (11.60) for a 3rd-straight year. She also successfully defended her title in the 200-meter dash (state record 23.76) and crossed the finish line 1st in the 400-meter dash (54.36).
King’s time in the 200-meter run is the fastest in D-II state history, eclipsing the previous mark of 23.81 by Kya Epps on June 4, 2022.
With this weekend’s efforts, King wraps up her high school career as a 10-time state champion.
On the boys’ side, Singleton captured a state title in the long jump (23-06.50) for a 2nd-consecutive year.
In addition, the quartet of sophomore Cle’ondre Davis, sophomore Jeremiah Fuller, junior Jerome Davis V, and freshman Khary Carson II finished in 9th place (44.48) in the 4×100-meter relay.
