Eight Fighting Irish Advance to Division II Track & Field State Championship

The Central Catholic girls’ and boys’ track & field teams competed in the Division II Regional Championship on Thursday and Saturday at Lexington High School.

A total of eight CCHS student-athletes qualified for the 117th-annual Boys’ and 50th-annual Girls’ Ohio High School Athletic Association Track & Field State Championship. The 2-day Division II meet will take place Friday-Saturday, June 6-7 at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium on the campus of The Ohio State University.

The top 4 finishers in each event at every regional qualified for the state championship. The next 2 best efforts from around the state will also earn a spot in Columbus.

The girls’ squad finished 6th with 30 points, while the boys’ team placed 9th with 26 points.

On the girls’ side, senior Nyla King captured 1st place in the 100-meter (11.79), 200-meter (24.33), and 400-meter dash (54.61).  King successfully defended her regional titles in both the 100-meter and 200-meter runs, while her mark in the 400-meter dash was a regional record.

On the boys’ side, junior Victor Singleton, Jr. won the long jump (22-11.5) for a 2nd-straight spring.

In the relays, the quartet of junior Ian Smith, Jr., sophomore Jeremiah Fuller, junior Jerome Davis V, and freshman Khary Carson II finished 2nd in the 4×100-meter (42.49), while Smith, sophomore Cle’ondre Davis, Davis, and senior Anthony Lawrence, Jr. placed 4th in the 4×400-meter (3:23.51).
