Alumna Corri Stanley Resigns as Girls’ Basketball Coach for Family Reasons

Central Catholic High School Athletic Director Greg Dempsey announced today that alumna Corri (Helldobler) Stanley (Class of 2003) has stepped down from her position as head girls’ basketball coach due to family health issues.

Dempsey said a search for Stanley’s replacement will begin immediately.

Less than two months after being rehired to lead the Lady Irish basketball program, Stanley learned that her 4-year-old son, Colton, was diagnosed with T-cell Lymphoblastic Lymphoma.  According to the Leukemia Foundation, Lymphoblastic Lymphoma is an aggressive form of non-Hodgkin lymphoma.  It is relatively rare, accounting for approximately two percent of all non-Hodgkin lymphomas.

“Central Catholic is grateful for everything Corri has done for the school and especially Lady Irish basketball,” Dempsey said.  “Our prayers are with Colton, Corri, and her family as they continue on Colton's road to recovery.”

A current teacher at her alma mater, Stanley coached within the girls’ basketball program for 12 seasons from 2008-20. She was the junior varsity head coach and varsity assistant before holding the head varsity coaching position for six years (2014-20).

“It is with a heavy heart that I step down from my position as head coach of the Lady Irish basketball program,” Stanley said.  “To say I was excited about returning to lead a program I care so much about is an understatement.  Unfortunately, my family has faced a very difficult year.  As we continue to face the challenges ahead, I know this is the right decision. My role as ‘Mom’ has never been more important.”

Stanley helped lead the Fighting Irish to two Three Rivers Athletic Conference championships (2014-15, 2015-16) and five district tournament appearances (2014-15, 2015-16, 2017-18, 2018-19, 2019-20) during her first stint in the program.

For the 2014-15 season, she was named the TRAC Coach of the Year. Stanley also was the District 7 Coaches Association Division 2 Coach of the Year for the 2017-18 campaign. Her all-time career record as head coach for the Scarlet & Gray is 98-44.

“The love I have for the Lady Irish basketball program, Central Catholic, Irish Athletics, and the entire Irish community has never been stronger,” Stanley said.  “My family is so grateful for the amazing amount of love and support we continue to receive.”
