Get to Know CCHS Teacher - Paul Devine, ‘04

What subjects and grade levels do you teach?
I teach freshman and junior theology.

How long have you been teaching at Central Catholic?
This is my first year.  I'm a newbie.

What is your educational background?
I have a bachelor's in psychology with a focus on education and adolescence.

What is the best kept secret about Central Catholic?
If I may steal a popular phrase: "When you're here, you're family."  I thought it would be harder to walk back into this building after 16 years of being away, but when I came through those doors, I knew I was home.  I might have even shed a tear on my way out the door.

What inspired you to become a teacher?
I have always thought that teaching would be nice.  I have had the fortune of having amazing teachers both here and at other schools.  But I have to lay the blame on my first teacher, my dad.  He has been a teacher for over 35 years and I still go to him for advice.  We would spend time around the dinner table listening to stories of his students and his experiences and I always wanted that.

What do you like most about teaching at Central Catholic?
I like the impact and relationships I have with students.  I was a youth minister for 13 years and I can tell you from the outside looking in: no one has the potential to impact a student more than a teacher.
