Wrestling Commences Regular Season at Jim Derr Memorial
The Central Catholic wrestling team competed at the Jim Derr Memorial over the weekend on the campus of Northwood High School. Five CCHS grapplers placed in the Top 5 at the season-opening tourney, helping the Scarlet & Gray finish 7th as a team in the 2-day event.
Highlighting the Fighting Irish’s efforts was a runner-up finish by senior Emilio Herrera at 120 pounds.
In addition, senior Anthony Clark, Jr. placed 3rd at 285 pounds, sophomore Brendan Zapadka finished 4th at 106 pounds, while sophomore Joel Osbourne and sophomore Andrei Irimia placed 5th at 138 and 190 pounds, respectively.
In other mat action over the weekend, newcomers Kynton Carruthers (285 lbs.), Devin Joyner (165 lbs.), and Anthony Pope, Jr. (215 lbs.) each captured 1st place at the Andy Bates Freshman Invitational.
CCHS will return to the mat at the Rogers Invitational on Saturday, December 21 at 10 a.m.
