Softball Prevails vs. Lumen Christ Catholic in CHSL Cardinal Division Championship Game, 3-2
The Central Catholic softball team defeated Lumen Christi Catholic School, 3-2, on Friday in the Catholic High School League Varsity AA Championship Game on the campus of Adrian College. With the neutral-site victory, the Scarlet & Gray extends its winning streak to 10-straight games and improves to 18-8 overall.
The Fighting Irish scored the game-winning run on a hit by junior Makenzie Coleman in the top of the 7th frame to help them secure their 2nd-straight CHSL division title.
Senior RHP Ella Schuberg earned the win on the mound, yielding 2 earned runs on 6 hits with 9 strikeouts in a complete-game effort.
Offensively, freshman Milla Bragg batted 2-for-3 with a double and 2 RBI. Twin sister, Maeley Bragg, went 2-for-3 with a run scored, while classmate Emma Daugherty had a double and scored a run.
CCHS will return to the diamond against. No. 2 seed Maumee High School on Thursday, May 22 in the Division III Clay District Tournament Semifinals at the Oregon Recreation Department (5330 Seaman Rd., Oregon, 43616). The 1st pitch between the No. 3 seed Fighting Irish and Panthers is slated for 6 p.m.
