Six Fighting Irish Garner All-Ohio Laurels

Six members of the Central Catholic football team garnered All-Ohio Division III accolades, the Ohio Prep Sportswriters Association announced on Wednesday. The OPSWA was created in 1972 to support, promote and recognize coverage of high school sports across Ohio and is endorsed by the Ohio High School Athletic Association (OHSAA).

The All-Ohio teams are based on nominations from the 7 districts of the OPSMA, which vote on the all-district teams from regular-season accomplishments.

The Fighting Irish had 3 1st-team selections. That list included junior DB Victor Singleton, Jr., who collected D-III Defensive Player of the Year honors.

Singleton tallied a team-high 4 interceptions this past fall and 6 pass breakups, the 2nd-highest mark on the squad.

Joining Singleton on the 1st team were senior RB Tyler Morgan and senior DL Curtis Strode, Jr.

Morgan totaled 1,483 yards on 258 carries (5.7 ypc) and 15 TDs.  A team captain, Morgan finished with the 11th-most rushing yards in program history in a season.

Strode recorded 84 stops, including a team-high 16 tackles-for-loss, and 5 sacks.  His sack total was tied for the 2nd-highest number on the squad.

Junior OL Zenaje Liggons also collected 2nd-team laurels, while 2 others captured honorable mention accolades – senior LB Michael Besteda and junior WR Preston Fryzel.

Liggons was part of an offensive line that helped CCHS average 31.0 points and 340.9 yards per game.

Besteda registered a team-high 112 stops, including 14 tackles-for-loss.  He also led the squad with 7 sacks and 3 forced fumbles.

Fryzel posted 43 catches for 807 yards and 10 TDs.  He led the squad in all 3 categories.  Fryzel finished tied for the 5th-most scores and 6th in receiving yards in school annals.

Central Catholic advanced to the state championship game for the 3rd straight year in 2024.  The Scarlet & Gray posted a 14-2 overall record, including a 5-1 ledger in the Catholic High School League (CHSL).
