Central Catholic Hires Alumnus Eddie Washington as Cross Country Coach

Alumnus Eddie Washington (Class of 2016) has been named the head cross country coach at Central Catholic High School, Director of Athletics Greg Dempsey recently announced.

“We are excited to have Coach Washington take over our cross country program,” said Dempsey.  “Eddie has been an integral part of our track & field coaching staff, and they have achieved great success during his time.  We look forward to his leadership of our cross country teams.”

Washington has served as an assistant coach with the CCHS track & field program since 2021, working with the 400-, 800-, and 1,600-meter runners.  He also assists with the 4x400-meter relay and the sprinters.  Over the last 3 years, the Scarlet & Gray has secured a whopping 10 state championships on the track.

As a student-athlete on Cherry Street, Washington was a member of the track & field program for 4 years and cross country for 2 years.  In his senior season, the track & field team was crowned district champions and finished runner-up in the Three Rivers Athletic Conference (TRAC).

Following graduation, Washington enlisted in the U.S. Navy from 2016-20 and ranked as high as Petty Officer 3rd Class.

“I’m excited to get the opportunity to become a head coach at my alma mater,” Washington said.  “I’m very grateful to work with a program that my coach (James Petiniot) made great for so many years.”

The cross country team is slated to open its season on Saturday, August 24 at the Eastwood Night Meet at 8 p.m.
